Singapore has emerged as a top global study destination due to the innovative and advanced academic culture at universities, and the country’s diverse, cosmopolitan environment. There are approximately 50,000 international students enrolled in Singapore universities. Foreign nationals who wish to study in Singapore need to obtain a Student Pass – commonly known as the Singapore Student Visa.
Applications for the Student Pass are submitted through an online application and registration system. Those aged 19 years or less at the time of applying for the Pass in order to participate in a full-time course taught at an approved Private Education Organization (PEO) will have their applications directly processed by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority of Singapore.
Those aged above 19 years at the time of applying for the Pass in order to participate in a non-graduate or post-graduate degree course (Including University of London tuition programs), or a fine arts, vocational, language or commercial course; may be required to appear for an interview in Beijing at the Singapore Embassy. Applicants must carry required documents to the interview.
The interview date will be provided by the PEO. Roughly 2 months after the interview, the PEO will be informed of the outcome of the application. For cases where an interview is required, the application is usually processed within 2-4 months. The applicant cannot enquire about the outcome of the interview during this period.
The non-refundable processing fee for all applications is S$30. In some cases, a security deposit of S$5,000 may also be required from the student. If the application is successful, the applicant also has to pay a S$60 fee when the Student Pass is issued. Upon receiving an in-principle approval letter from the relevant authority after applying for an entry visa, a fee of RMB 136 must be paid.
