Apply for Student Visa USA as an Indian Student

Every year, thousands of students in India who have just passed out from school or have completed their graduation aspire to study further in USA. The obvious reasons being the extreme popularity of the country and indeed it is the best education provider across the globe. In order to attend a University in USA, every Indian student must obtain a student Visa USA from the nearest U.S. Embassy.

In USA, along with academic acceptance in an Institute, an international student must also fulfil the legal and governmental aspects of traveling to the country. Though the process of obtain the student visa is time consuming and a bit complex, study abroad consultants in India may come to your rescue. To study in USA, an Indian student need to apply for F-Class U.S.A. student visa, if he or she is planning for full time courses at undergraduate or graduate level. However, to attend recognized non-academic institutions or vocational courses, a student shall obtain M-Class visa. The result of your Visa application shall be dependent upon the authenticity of your documents and your interview.


There are certain formalities to be completed before you schedule your interview with the Embassy or Consulate:


  • Complete your Form DS-160

  • After completing the form, take a print out of the confirmation page with the barcode on a laser printer

  • Visit an approved HDFC Bank branch in order to pay the Visa application fee

  • Ensure that you have the I-20 form issued by your University in U.S., and that you have paid I-901 fee online through the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement website.

Further, you need to fix your appointment for your U.S.A. student visa through VFS website, for which you would require your DS-160 barcode number and the HDFC fee receipt. While appearing for the interview, you need to take some documents along, which are explicitly mentioned on the website of the U.S. Embassy.


After you interview, you shall wait for the results of your visa. There are two possible outcomes apart from being approved, and they are – postponement of your visa or refusal. If you Visa is postponed, you shall wait for further response or action, or you can contact the consulate.


Alternatively, if your visa is rejected, it may be disheartening but you have the option to reapply for your visa. As, USA does not provide the option to appeal the case, you shall have to reapply by paying the visa processing fees again and schedule another appointment. The U.S. Embassy will provide you with the information regarding the same


It is advisable that you must apply for your student visa USA well in advance (at least six to twelve months) of the commencement of your studies. This is because, the process is time consuming and if the case arises for reapplication, you need extra time by your side to avoid unnecessary delays in your studies.
